Our Goals
The Antrim Literature Project connects public readers to learning communities and literary experts. We are a transmedia collective (centrally organized through our website) that hosts free educational events online and in person. We offer courses, videos, textual resources, and community-building around literature, both online and in-person.
We aim to do two things:
To make the study of literature accessible to readers beyond the university;
To foster a love for literature by encountering it through close reading, conversation, and community.
Our courses are free. Our online courses are available to anyone with an internet connection. Our instructors are approachable, experienced, and expect a beginner level of literary study: asking basic questions is a good practice even for experts, and our instructors are also here to learn from new perspectives. “Literature” be can an intimidating subject. We provide a free service so people who enjoy reading and want to appreciate it more deeply can do so equitably.
We believe that a genuine passion for the written word impels effective teaching and learning. Our aim is to instill a love for literature in our students, guiding them on a journey of exploration and discovery that transcends academic boundaries and fosters a lifelong appreciation for the written word.
We hope to send readers back to great works of literature with an improved relish, love, and understanding.
Our Principles
Conversation. Listening to another broadens our perceptions and experience of the text, and makes us mindful of beautiful communication.
Close Reading. Attention to the art and craft of language is a worthwhile pursuit. By delving into the nuances of language, symbolism, and narrative structure, we develop a connection with the written word and gain insights into human life and experience.
Community. Personal encounters with the written word connects us to distant people and places. We bring groups together to discuss our reading of great written works and to learn from each other.
